Pitlochry

Pitlochry in Bloom Committee, helpers & Friends all come from the local community and, during the past seventeen years, the group has gathered momentum. With additional support and funding from local residents and businesses and much lobbying to encourage everyone to become involved in the campaign, Pitlochry is truly “Blooming”!

A thriving local competition and Secret Gardens Day in August allows locals and visitors to admire the many beautiful private and commercial gardens in the town. We have an excellent working relationship with our local school & playgroup and endeavour to encourage the children here and in Highland Perthshire to take responsibility for their own environment. The “Silver Branch” project is now in its fourth year and has grown from working with the children into the wider community and become an intergenerational project, concerned with storytelling, the environment and local culture. We encourage local businesses to become involved in the campaign and improve their premises, some of which are absolutely stunning in summer.

Pitlochry in Bloom organise the spring and summer floral displays, hang nearly 300 hanging baskets and look after the town’s feature beds complete with Victorian sculptures. The “Wildlife Garden” was ten years old in 2009 and is a fitting tribute to the late Meg Dunn, who inspired us all.

We have a great deal of fun with our fund-raising programme, events are held throughout the year, from the famous Green Park Coffee Morning, Games Day Stall and the Reindeer Parade, and are well supported by the community and visitors. We are indebted to many people for their dedication and help in enabling us to continuously raise our profile and standards and to our many sponsors.

Pitlochry in Bloom celebrated 15 years of “Blooming” in 2008 and was delighted to collect two more Gold awards, one from Take a Pride in Perthshire along with the "Small Country Town Shield" and one from Beautiful Scotland.

Aldour Gardens & Court picked up their second Certificate of Merit at the Neighbourhood Awards to round off a great 2009 season. This was the third Neighbourhood Award presented to Pitlochry residents.

With their second Gold Medal from the RHS in Britain in Bloom in 2009 and Category Winner, they have been asked to compete in the “Champion of Champions” in 2010 and are also in the “International Challenge” competing against the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe. 2010 also sees Rie Achan Road enter the Neighbourhood Awards for the first time.
