The beach at the head of Loch Tay in this beautiful part of Highland Perthshire is enjoyed and used extensively by local people and residents for all sorts of leisure activities.
It is owned by Taymouth Hotels and managed by Perth and Kinross Council. The aim of the project is to put the beach in good order and to transfer it to community management. The project brief includes environmental improvements to the beach’s setting and infrastructure (particularly to withstand severe winter weather and reduce annual maintenance costs), selective tree removal and replacement with native species, biodiversity and improvements to the car park. The project will also include annual income generation so that a long term local management and maintenance plan can be implemented by the community.
With the help of funding from the Take a Pride in Perthshire Association and Perth and Kinross Council, a landscape architect was appointed to produce proposals so that further local consultation can take place and funding secured. Scottish Native Woods and Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust have agreed to support the project and seedcorn funding from the latter means that a cost plan can be produced which will allow fundraising to begin.
