Crieff in Leaf have recently started work on a new project to transform a corner of Bridgend Garden into a haven for wildlife.
The project came about as a result of suggestions from the local community and has been undertaken with initial guidance from David Williamson of PKC. It has been jointly funded by SITA Tayside Biodiversity Action Fund and Crieff in Leaf.
Bridgend Garden (shown in the picture) is a popular spot for visitors and locals to sit in tranquillity, watching the river going past, taking in the views of the hills that surround Crieff.
Over the next few months, 250 mixed hardy perennials will be planted to create a wildflower meadow with a mown grass path and incorporating a living willow arch. Once established, local schools and youth organisations will be given the opportunity to build bird boxes and put in plants and generally encouraged to promote new wildlife to the area. Educational projects will include monitoring bird activity, butterfly numbers and sightings of other wildlife.
