Volunteers out in force in Dunkeld and Birnam |
|
Volunteers were out in force in Dunkeld and Birnam on Saturday 30th October. The team, led by Linda Speirs, Chair of the local Dunkeld and Birnam group, planted up the large flower bed at the junction between Birnam and Dunkeld.
The work was made possible by a fantastic fundraising effort from Dunkeld and Birnam in Bloom volunteers together with funding from the Take a Pride in Perthshire Association and with the support of The Environment Service at Perth and Kinross Council. Sue Allen, Landscape Architect at Perth and Kinross Council, helped the group to select plants and design the new scheme and also volunteered on Saturday.
Next spring, residents, visitors and passers by will be able to enjoy a beautiful and colourful display. The best plants from the previous scheme were retained and enhanced by the additon of plants to offer winter colour (heathers such as E.carnea, rhododendrons), texture and ground cover (Elephants Ears) as well as stem colour (pieris), berries and flowers. Spring bulbs were also planted and space left for seasonal planting by local volunteers.
