This project, led by Kinnesswood in Bloom, was create a printed walking guide for families (adults and children, residents, visitors and tourists), linked to the Michael Bruce Way, so that everyone could explore the history, heritage and architecture of the village – and enjoy the health benefits gained by walking.
The Kinross-shire Fund donated £1000 for the children’s guide. The application to PKC Quality of Life Trust was turned down but this only spurred on the local group who increased their fundraising efforts and brought down costs. A second application was successfully submitted in March 2010 and the book was launched at the Portmoak Festival in July. Total project cost was £2000.
The project was the idea of Dave Goodwin, a local volunteer, who sadly passed away suddenly in 2009 - the group was pleased to be able to use the launch of the booklet to remember Dave and his contribution to the life of the village. Many people collaborated to produce the guide: the project was co-ordinated by Norma Smith; editing was undertaken by Katherine Marshall and the booklet was designed by local graphic designer Dave MacKenzie (www.deadpepperstudio). Professor David Munro, Jane Martin and Tom Buchan all shared their knowledge of the area to make the booklet possible. The children's guide was designed by children from Portmoak School whose art work linked to the project was on display at the Portmoak Festival.
The booklet and children's guide are available at various outlets in the village. The booklet is sold for 50p and the children's guide is free of charge.
