This project, completed in August 2010, was carried out by a partnership of the Perthshire Royal Horticultural Society, Beautiful Perth,Take a Pride in Perthshire, Perth and Kinross Council and South Perth Green Spaces Group.
The works marked completion of a major environmental improvement project at St Magdalene's Hill which began in 2006. That initiative, led by the St Magdalene's Hill Community Steering Group, raised over £250,000 from a number of agencies including The Forestry Commission, Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust, Perth and Kinross Council, Beautiful Perth and the Take a Pride in Perthshire Association. Works comprised improvements to entrances and footpaths, installation of a mountain board track, new bridges, waymarkers and signage as well selective tree felling and planting.
The works just completed have provided the finishing touches and greatly enhance the appearance of the entrance to St Magdalene’s Hill, a much loved and visited local park.
The wooden perimeter fence surrounding the car park was replaced by a series of stone walls which frame the stunning view over to Kinnoull Hill. In addition, a legacy from a local resident in Craigie meant that a specially designed picnic table and chairs could be commissioned and built on site.
A "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" - with guests who included local schoolchildren and Councillors - was held in early September to mark completion of the project.
The cost of works for the final phase was approximately £17,000.
