The appearance of Crieff High Street was much improved by this clever and cost effective idea which transformed the 18 concrete planters which have been maintained, summer and winter, by the local blooms team, Crieff in Leaf by enclosing them in timber. The problem was that their roximity to the busy trunk road meant that they needed regular painting and pressure washing to remove dirt and grime before they are planted up again each summer.
Consideration was given as to how they could be improved and advice, comments and suggestions were sought from Perth and Kinross Council and the local community. A local joiner was commissioned to enclose the planters with timber surrounds, ensuring that there were no catchment areas where rubbish could collect.
The finishing touches were provided in autumn 2010 by the Criminal Justice Service. This project was funded by Crieff in Leaf with the support of local businesses, tradesmen and the local community.
