Michael Bruce Cottage Museum Garden

Kinnesswood in Bloom is undertaking a thoughtful project to sensitively transform the garden behind the Michael Bruce Cottage Museum into a more welcoming, accessible, and reflective space for both locals and visitors. Nestled along the popular Michael Bruce Way, the garden is a well-loved resting spot for walkers and a place of quiet beauty in the heart of the village. The project honours the legacy of Michael Bruce – the 18th-century poet born in Kinnesswood – through improvements that will enhance the garden’s charm while making it safer and easier to enjoy.

Pride in Meigle 2015

Village Entrance Gateway Improvement

Pride in Meigle 2015 is developing a vibrant improvement project for the north-west entrance to the village – currently a simple grassed area with unstable trees and a well-used path. This space is not only a valued leisure route but also a vital active travel link connecting Meigle with neighbouring rural communities.

The project will enhance the area with low-maintenance, biodiversity-friendly planting, a feature drystone wall, and an upgraded all-weather pathway for year-round use. Habitat improvements, including bird boxes and hedgehog shelters, will support local wildlife.

Mercat Cross Restoration

Scone in Bloom is embarking on project to restore the historic New Scone Mercat Cross, a Category B listed monument that has fallen into disrepair and is currently fenced off for public safety. The group are also planning on enhancing the surrounding garden with biodiverse planting, native species, and plants linked to David Douglas, the famed botanist born in Old Scone. Improved access, new seating, a selfie stand, and an information board will transform the site into a welcoming, educational space.
